Meet Bill

 

Bill Wachel is an information technology executive, focused on bringing a service attitude to IT teams in fast growing organizations while creating trust in IT with his peer executives and stability from chaotic technology environments.  He is a change agent equipped with strong leadership, technology, and business operations expertise.

 

Bill has served as the Chief Information Officer or senior IT leader at a $90M health insurance firm, the largest anesthesiology physician group in the U.S., and the international leader in clinical research software and services.  He understands the business first, having served as a Principal doing business strategy engagements with Booz Allen & Hamilton, and holds an MBA from SMU.  He has also worked in IT leadership in the retail, restaurant operations, and oil & gas industries.  

 

Bill is a Certified Chief Information Security Officer (C|CISO) and a Certified Scrum Master (CSM).

As Chief Information Officer, managed digital (social media and advertising), application development, and reporting / business intelligence teams for this international non-profit using technology to drive messages world-wide.

  • Attracted over 170 million people world-wide to our websites, with over 20 million people taking action from the website; achieved a 20% increase YOY in who viewed our websites and 46% increase YOY in actions from the websites 

  • Sponsored numerous key strategic initiatives raising performance of overall organization, including a focus on use of social media to reach younger audiences; use of Agile methodology by technology team; and use of Tableau business intelligence tool and daily performance metrics

  • Strengthened partnership with key supplier Google, leading to participation in Google executive events and multiple in-person workshops and conversations with Google

  • Worked closely and collaboratively with the Chief Strategy Officer to migrate service delivery for multiple foreign languages to teams based geographically around the world

  • Developed and deployed one of first non-profit organization Amazon Alexa "skills" 

As Chief Information Officer, instrumental part of c-level executive team growing company from $35 million in revenue to a $93 million company in just three years.  Managed enterprise-wide information technology strategy and services, including infrastructure operations, application development (primarily SaaS models), desktop support, and other functions across multiple office and call center locations for this very rapidly growing firm.  

Key Results:

  • Utilizing a business-oriented and service-focused management style, “turned around” the information technology department, aligning services with business objectives.  Built solid working relationships between IT and business units.

  • Eliminated service outages and established a technology infrastructure that the business could trust, deploying new Avaya phone system, Zeacom call center software, Five9's lead management system, electronic fulfillment, content management, and Google applications/email.

  • Led successful evaluation and integration of technology and IT operations as Homeland Healthcare acquired four new organizations in twelve months.

  • Positioned technology aspects of company to pass due diligence as company gained outside investments. 

Worked as Chief Success Officer and Operations Executive for serial entreprenuer and former VC President on two different concepts he was pursuing, a software-as-a-service based gift capture platform for non-profit organizations (iDonate, LLC) and a training software solution based on Adobe LCCS technologies CleverSpring/trainingSpring.

Key Results:

  • At iDonate, LLC - Managed teams onboarding over 200 new customers and processing 2,200 non-cash gifts, both largest annual volumes in company history.  Led customer communications for three major software releases. 

  • At trainingSpring, LLC - Led successful deployment and user onboarding for over 150 new portals/organizations for international client base. Established and drove relationship with Adobe, Inc. leading to offer for CleverSpring to become official Adobe Endorsed Solution and Adobe partner.

Managed technology services as IT Director and senior IT executive for all corporate entities including revenue management, physician scheduling, credentialing, 25 clinics, and off-site physician support at hospitals, as company grew by 30% through acquisitions. Managed applications, infrastructure, network, data center operations, and service management.

Key Results:

  • Deployed new physician credentialing software increasing staff productivity by 25% and improving credential file completeness and quality of documentation.  

  • Implemented new scheduling software allowing physician scheduling team to absorb 15% increase in caseload.

  • Positioned firm for outside investments, reducing operational risk and better regulatory compliance through deployment of security monitoring tools & processes, standardization of equipment, and improvements in BCP/disaster recovery procedures and testing.

  • Partnered with Chief Medical Officer and 20 leading physicians to deploy SharePoint application used collaboratively by physicians to capture best practices in anesthesia care, a key step in Pinnacle winning exclusive anesthesia services contract at top DFW hospital thus achieving a large increase in revenues.

As Chief Information Officer, managed 5 direct reports and IT staff of over 40 individuals in 5 locations. Responsible for 24x7x365 operations in three data centers (one internal / two outsourced), customer service desk, and software deployment for this international Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) with high-demand Global Fortune 200 customers such as Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Amgen, & AstraZeneca.

Key Results:

  • Successfully delivered high quantity and quality technology services to support tremendous growth of company, including successfully deploying over 40 new customer environments on 100+ new server computers in less than 90 days.

  • Key customer facing role. Retained two critical and financially significant customers who were about to depart due to service issues. Worked closely with external customers to rebuild operational and technical credibility.

  • Raised quality of IT staff; completed qualification/revalidation interviews of all staff members; hired and on- boarded 15 new IT staff members in two months to support growth; revitalized IT staff morale.

As Director IT Planning & Program Management, managed an enterprise-wide team of 25+ in preparing for and successfully passing critical new audits and certifications.   Company had grown throug h acqusition of 60+ entities.  

Key Results:

  • Led enterprise-wide team in achieving SOURCECORP’s first SAS70 (Type II) compliance audit; encompassed 7 major domestic and international operating locations. Removed significant obstacle to revenue growth with successful SAS70 audit as many current and new customers were requiring a SAS70 certification for contract renewal.

  • Successfully passed all IT components (404) of SOURCECORP’s first Sarbanes-Oxley (SARBOX) audit. Worked with and for management in 14 separate business units. Reduced operational risk and ensured regulatory compliance.

  • Achieved considerable operational efficiencies by defining and implementing numerous process changes and technology improvements. Established new communication channels, esprit de corps across decentralized IT units in autonomous operating units.

As a consulting Program Manager, led a team of 20 on-site consultants and offshore developers customizing ERP / PeopleSoft 8.8 HRMS implementation for Merck, a Fortune 20 international pharmaceuticals company.

  • Initiative was twelve-month effort encompassing clarification of business requirements, defining technical approach, completing technical design, constructing and unit testing, and supporting system integration & acceptance testing, part of effort to consolidate all Merck HRMS applications.

Bill is the proud father of two daughters, one a graduate student at UTD and one a CPA and tax accountant with PWC.  

 

Bill is an Eagle Scout and enjoys time spent outdoors.  He enjoys road bike riding, hiking in the mountains, camping, and entertaining.  He loves spending time with his daughters and friends.  Bill also enjoys photography.

 

Bill is also very active in his church where he has taught adult and children's classes and served on numerous committees.
